Dr. David Mwambari
Research Associate
Professor Dr. David Mwambari is an associate professor in the Faculty of Social Sciences at Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium and the principal investigator for the European Research Council (ERC)-funded TMSS project on Life narratives of Violence Among Refugees. He is a core faculty and a board member at the Oxford Consortium on Human Rights, University of Oxford and at the Centre for Mediation in Africa at the University of Pretoria.
He is a leading consultant researcher who uses mixed methods approaches to studies in Africa and the African diaspora. He has experience leading, co-leading and working with multicultural inclusive teams of researchers. His passion is to support and nature emerging researchers especially from marginalized groups.
Dr. Sayra van den Berg
Research Associate
Dr. Sayra van den Berg is a decolonial peacebuilding and human rights researcher. She is aresearch associate at the University of York, UK with ten years of experience working with marginalized communities across Sub-Saharan Africa. Her expertise lies in arts-based and participatory research methods, and she holds substantive experience working with marginalized communities in East Africa. She is also a practicing research consultant, working as a decolonial evaluation research expert with expertise in amplifying the needs and agency of marginalized communities in human rights, peacebuilding and development
contexts.
Sulah Mawejje
Research Associate
Sulah Mawejje is a passionate LGBTQIA+ human rights defender, advocate and expert. He specializes in inclusive community engagement, storytelling and artivism to amplify marginalised voices, raise awareness of human rights gaps and promote equality. He holds extensive experience conducting community-driven and human-centred qualitative research with LGBTQIA+ communities to promote inclusivity and empower underrepresented groups. Suleh’s expertise lies in creative storytelling that addresses the erasure of LGBTQIA+ narratives and raises awareness for the human rights needs of displaced communities. He is a recognised leader in LGBTQIA+ and refugee rights movements in East Africa with substantive experience managing teams, strategic human rights planning and programming, and expanding local, regional and transnational networks to secure funding and partnerships for long-term impact.
Silvia Cherono
Research Associate
Silvia Tonui is a project management and digital marketing specialist with 12 years of experience in brand strategy, consumer engagement, and business training across Africa, the UK, and Europe. With a strong foundation in project management, she excels in overseeing complex campaigns, coordinating cross-functional teams, and ensuring seamless execution from concept to completion. She specializes in developing data-driven project strategies and community-centered impact. A Kenyan national, Silvia is passionate about creative storytelling and empowerment.
